DIRECTIONS
- For Cake: Heat oven to 350°F. Prepare 2 (9-inch) round cake pans with nonstick spray and line bottoms with parchment paper. Coat parchment with nonstick spray.
- Beat butter, sugars, ¼ cup Fisher® Black Walnuts, baking soda, salt and spices in large bowl with electric mixer until light in color and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating on low speed after each until blended. Alternately add flour and applesauce, mixing after each addition just until blended. Divide batter between pans.
- Bake 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans. Cool completely on wire rack.
- For Frosting: Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy. Add milk, if needed, until frosting is spreadable.
- To assemble, place 1 cake layer on cake stand or serving platter. Spread ½ cup Frosting over top of cake. Top with second cake layer. Frost top and side of cake with remaining Frosting. Decorate with remaining nuts. Refrigerate leftovers.
