DIRECTIONS

  1. For Cake: Heat oven to 350°F. Prepare 2 (9-inch) round cake pans with nonstick spray and line bottoms with parchment paper. Coat parchment with nonstick spray.
  2. Beat butter, sugars, ¼ cup Fisher® Black Walnuts, baking soda, salt and spices in large bowl with electric mixer until light in color and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating on low speed after each until blended. Alternately add flour and applesauce, mixing after each addition just until blended. Divide batter between pans.
  3. Bake 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans. Cool completely on wire rack.
  4. For Frosting: Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy. Add milk, if needed, until frosting is spreadable.
  5. To assemble, place 1 cake layer on cake stand or serving platter. Spread ½ cup Frosting over top of cake. Top with second cake layer. Frost top and side of cake with remaining Frosting. Decorate with remaining nuts. Refrigerate leftovers.
